Binding Details: Ornately decorated full leather binding consisting of full brown morocco leather with a spine treatment of gold gilt ruling and titling. The covers are gold gilt ruled with an elaborate gold gilt decoration and blind-tooling. There are decorative endpapers and all page ends are gold gilted.
Book Details:This is first edition of The Stratford Gallery or The Shakespeare Sisterhood comprising Shakespeare's heroines in words and images. The book is illustrated with forty-five full-page, tissue-protected, highly finished steel engravings that are accompanied by a description of the person portrayed.
The book measures approximately 11.25” x 8”
Condition Report:The binding is in Very Good condition with a small mended area at the very top of the frontal hinge. The boards are slightly cocked and there are small chip to the spine crown. The leather shows peripheral rubbing and some discoloration. Internally, complete and clean with some occasional spotting and off-setting to pages from the illustrations.
