Full Title:  The Shooter's Guide; or, Sportsman's Companion: Containing Every Possible Instruction for the Juvenile Shooter, Together with Information Necessary for the Experienced Sportsman

Binding Details:  Beautiful full morocco leather custom binding by Bayntun -Riviere, Bath with decorated raised bands to the spine that also features gilt ruling and compartments with heart shaped floral stops and gilt titling. There is gilt ruling and a paneled design to the covers with decorative floral stops, gold gilted inner dentelles, hand marbled endpapers and 2 built-in satin bookmarks. All page ends are gold gilted. The Bayntun - Riviere binder’s stamp appears in gold gilt on the bottom of the inside front cover.

Book Details:  Originally published in 1809 with the second edition being published in 1810, this is a stated third edition of “The Shooter's Guide; or, Sportsman's Companion” published in 1811 by Johnson & Leak. Each edition was published with 4 full-page black-and-white illustrations but this particular copy has been extra illustrated with a total of 42 black-and-white full page illustrations that cover the full range of topics included in the book

The book measures approximately 8.5” x 5.5” with 397 pages as well as an author’s preface, table of contents, errata page, and one page advertisement for the 1811 publication of An Impartial Sketch of the French Revolution and History of Europe in 4 volumes by T.B. Johnson.

Condition Report:  The binding is in Near FINE condition. Internally, the book is exceptionally clean with some very sporadic light spotting to the text pages and some fraying to the ends of the built-in satin bookmarks. A small ink signature dated 1812 appears at the top of the title page. Overall, this is a wonderful Bayntun-Riviere full leather binding that houses an extra-illustrated edition of one of the classic English sporting books.
