Binding Details:  A stunning full leather mottled calf binding featuring an elaborately gilt decorated spine with raised bands and compartments for title and date, gold ruled covers with gilted floral stops, gilt edges, gilt dentelles, and gilted top page ends. The original covers are bound into the book before the first free endpaper.

Book Details:  Originally published in parts by Sampson Low, Son & Co., from February-November, 1859, this is the first edition, first printing in book form of “The Minister’s Wooing” published in the same year by the same publisher. “The Minister’s Wooing” is Harriet Beecher Stowe’s third novel and features 12 full page illustrations by Phiz (Hablot Knight Browne) that are a wonderful complement to Stowe’s story of daily life, slavery, and religion in post-Revolutionary New England.

The book measures approximately 8” x 5.25” with 362 pages and an introduction by Harriet Beecher Stowe, 16 pages of the publisher’s advertisements that appear after page 362, and the original cover wraps are bound into the book after the advertisements.

Condition Report:  The binding is in Very Good condition with some minor rubs to the head of the spine and minor shelf wear. Internally the book is clean with some age toning.

Photographs of the binding as well as the frontispiece and title page appear in the photo section of the listing.
