The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, Signed Custom Harcourt Binding

Binding Details:  Signed custom binding by the Harcourt Bindery, Charlestown, Massachusetts bound in three-quarter morocco leather over cloth boards that has raised bands to the spine, gilt titling, and gilt ruling. The covers have gilt lines to the boards and corners. There are hand-sewn silk headbands, marbled endpapers, and gold gilted top page ends. The Harcourt Bindery label appears on the bottom of the last free endpaper.

Book Details: The Rockwell Kent illustrations for The Complete Works of William Shakespeare were first published by Doubleday, Doran & Company, New York in 1936 in a limited edition of 750 copies. This is the first trade edition with his illustrations published by Garden City Books, New York in the same year that contains all 40 of the full page illustrations as well as the numerous tailpiece vignettes contained in the Doubleday, Doran limited edition. The text utilized is the Cambridge Edition Text as edited by William Aldis Wright.

Measures approximately 10” x 7.5” x 2.25” with 1,527 pages as well as a preface by Christopher Morley, glossary, and index to the characters and first lines.

Condition Report:  The binding is in FINE condition. Internally, the book is very clean with no signs of previous ownership.
