Binding Details: Beautifully rebound by Derek Woolf, Solihull, England in full tan Nigerian calf leather with raised bands to the spine and gilt lettering. The pastedowns and endpapers are hand marbled. The book is housed in a custom made full leather slipcase with titling on the front.
Book Details: This is the stated first edition, first printing of Michener’s Pulitzer Prize winning first novel based on observations and anecdotes he collected while stationed as a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy on the New Hebrides Islands.
The book is the basis for the 1949 musical play South Pacific by Rogers and Hammerstein.
The book measures approximately 8.5” x 5.5”, 326 pages.
Condition Report: The binding and slipcase are in FINE condition with minimal surface wear. Internally complete and clean with the usual page tanning that results from inferior paper being used because of the wartime paper shortage.
