Binding Details: Custom leather binding by the Harcourt Bindery, Charlestown, Massachusetts bound in morocco leather over marbled boards that has raised bands to the spine, gilt titling, and elaborate gilt decorations and ruling. There are gilt lines to the covers, hand-sewn silk headbands, and all page ends are gold gilted. The Harcourt Bindery label appears on the bottom of the first free endpaper.
Book Details: Five Tales was originally published in 1918. This is the Franklin Library edition published in 1981 as part of their Collected Stories of the World’s Greatest Writers series with the title, The Apple Tree and Other Stories. The fives tales in the book are The First and Last, A Stoic, The Apple Tree, The Juryman, Indian Summer of a Forsyte.
Upon its release in 1918, the book received incredible reviews including the following:

Measures approximately 8.5” x 6” with 382 pages as well as a table of contents. The illustrations in the book are by John Collier.
Condition Report: The binding is in FINE condition with some shading to the leather along the hinges. Internally, the book is very clean with no signs of previous ownership. Overall, this is a beautiful binding that houses five wonderful short stories by John Galsworthy.
